Attractions and apartments in Ustka – what is worth seeing by the Polish sea?
Ustka’s unique architecture, influenced by the successive stages of the town’s history, makes this location particularly attractive to tourists. The oldest section of Ustka follows the medieval layout of village streets – it is under the protection of the conservator of historical monuments and has been gradually restored since 2005. Especially worthy of attention are half-timbered houses which remind us of the times when Ustka was only a Kashubian fishing village.
Another part of the town which emphasises the town's importance is the former Zaułek Kapitański (currently John Paul II Square). Its name makes a reference to the beautiful townhouses surrounding it (preserved in an excellent condition), where the wealthiest residents once resided. Today, at the centre of the square stands a water wheel, a remnant of a mill which stood as late as at the start of the 20th century near the town’s promenade.
Apartments in Ustka – holiday by the sea
The seaside promenade in Ustka was built in 1875 with the encouragement of the visitors to the town, who were voicing the disapproval about the lack of attractive places to stroll. The promenade stretches over a kilometre along the coast on top of a sand dune. Today, i)you can pop into many food outlets serving fresh fish and homemade ice cream, and numerous cafés which make strolling along the coast even more enjoyable.
For centuries, Ustka has attracted large numbers of visitors who wished to treat various ailments, such as rheumatism, asthma or even nervous system disorders, by bathing in cold sea water. As a result, the year of 1912 saw the opening of several sanatoriums which offered various treatments to its guests. The historic building – Łazienki Usteckie – is a remnant of a famous spa in Ustka.
In addition to impressive architectural examples, the town also offers a wealth of attractions to water sports enthusiasts. Those who enjoy diving should head for the diving centre – Centrum Nurkowe Ustka – where they will be able to hone their skills. Professional instructors accompany both experienced divers and those who are only at the start of their diving adventure.
